Symbology of the FirearmsTactical.com Logo
The logo depicted on the FirearmsTactical.com website is a subdued color scheme.1 The low visibility aspect symbolizes ambiguity, an important tactic to create indecision and hesitation in an adversary. The gray star on black background emulates the subdued star and bars nationality markings on US Navy warplanes.
The center seal presents a Beretta handgun and safety/rescue cross to represent the defensive handgun as emergency safety/rescue equipment.2
The Latin motto "Salus In Periculo" means "Salvation Against Danger;" an imperfect Latin translation of "emergency safety/rescue."
In simple terms "FirearmsTactical" means the efficient, combative use of a firearm to stop deadly criminal violence.
The logo was conceived in 1989 as a brilliant, blood-red crimson star with golden-yellow oak leaf veins on a black background. Collectively the contrasting color scheme is meant to inspire a sense of lethal prowess. The black, red and yellow color combination occurs in the animal world on creatures that have a natural, deadly defense mechanism, in which the bold colors serve as a high-visibility "do not disturb" warning sign of possible harm to potential predators.
Although I disagree with gunwriter Massad Ayoob on other issues, he rightfully deserves credit for conceptualizing a defensive firearm as "emergency safety/rescue equipment". -- Shawn Dodson
